## Description

Gee Horton is a contemporary artist based in Cincinnati, Ohio. With a focus on photorealistic drawings, Gee's captivating studio work delves into the complexities of the human form, drawing inspiration from lived experiences and personal insights. In 2020, Gee made the bold decision to leave a corporate job and dedicate himself full-time to art, showcasing his profound commitment to artistic expression and exploration. Gee's solo debut in the contemporary art world came in 2021 with the award-winning exhibit Coming of Age Chapter I – In Search of Self...Identity at the esteemed Alice F. Weston Art Gallery in downtown Cincinnati. Through hyper-realistic charcoal and graphite portraits, visitors were invited to explore the beauty and intricacies of modern adolescence. This solo exhibit showcased Gee's immersive, multidimensional artwork, shedding light on themes of personal identity, the objectification of the Black body, the impact of contemporary media, ancestral connection, and the preservation of innocence. Gee's multidisciplinary approach to art encompasses photography, large-scale installations, and short films that engage the viewer while provoking introspection. His work can be found in various private and public collections, including The Mercantile Library and The Cincinnati Art Museum. Additionally, Gee's artwork has been featured on popular TV series Insecure and Harlem, as well as at notable locations such as the Cincinnati Music Hall and The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. In 2021, Gee completed an artist-in-residency at The Mercantile Library of Cincinnati, where he created a six-foot portrait of Black abolitionist and writer Peter H. Clark. As a grant recipient for ArtsWave's Truth and Reconciliation project, Gee developed The Baobab Project, fostering a collaborative space for Black men to explore vulnerability and reflect on their coming of age. Gee's unexpected journey into the fine art world has garnered recognition, with feature articles in the Cincinnati Enquirer and acknowledgment as one of Cincinnati's influential Black leaders and change-makers. In the summer of 2022, Gee embarked on a transformative artist-in-residency in Senegal with Diasporicsoul, further solidifying his commitment to artistic growth and collective introspection. Through his art, Gee aspires to create a lens for both the artist and the observer to truly see and be seen, transcending boundaries and fostering a shared human experience.
