## Description

Die Geschichtsöffner is a historical education and reenactment group that brings the Middle Ages and early modern period to life at regional medieval markets and through talks, seminars, and workshops. Its activities are designed for both children and adults, combining engaging demonstrations with accessible historical context. Visitors can explore period clothing from the early Middle Ages through the early modern era, examine books and everyday or religious objects, and learn about the development of fashion and equipment. The group also presents historical weapons, including swords and polearms, and may demonstrate their sharpness through cutting tests where event conditions permit.

For adult audiences, Die Geschichtsöffner offers short talks followed by questions and discussion, drawing on topics inspired by years of conversations with market visitors. Participants can try introductory sword techniques with wooden swords in a free beginner session, while enthusiasts can learn about modern historical European martial arts and the group’s experience with the longsword and polehammer.
