## Description

Gewerkschaft für Tiere e.V. is a German animal-welfare association founded in 1993 by Munich lawyer and television presenter Dr. Andreas Grasmüller and six fellow campaigners. Guided by the principle “Don’t just talk—act,” the organisation represents animals unable to speak up for themselves and works to protect them from cruelty and unlawful conditions in animal keeping, within the limits of the law.

The association operates two sanctuaries: Gut Streiflach in Germering near Munich, home to around 500 animals, and a bear sanctuary in Bad Füssing, which currently provides a home for ten bears. The animals at Gut Streiflach include species such as donkeys, pigs, dogs, cats, emus, cows and llamas. The organisation also helps animals in need find homes, including dogs seeking adoption.

People can support its work by becoming members, sponsoring an animal or donating. The association says donations go directly to its animals, while its board members volunteer and administrative costs are kept to a minimum.
