## Description

Gibmedia is a French digital-sector company whose public profile is closely associated with its campaign for fair competition in online advertising. The company challenged Google after its Google Ads account was suspended without prior notice in 2015, arguing that the decision was arbitrary and harmed its business. In December 2019, France’s Competition Authority fined Google €150 million following a complaint by Gibmedia, finding that Google had abused its dominant position in the online advertising market. Google appealed the decision in 2020.

Gibmedia presents its case as part of a broader effort to defend digital businesses against the market power of major technology platforms. In 2020, it joined the Open Internet Project (OIP), a Paris-based association established in 2014 to promote competition and represent Europe’s digital sector to French and European institutions. Through its website, Gibmedia informs visitors about the dispute, highlights concerns affecting online advertisers and digital publishers, and encourages companies and supporters to join or back the OIP’s collective advocacy.
