## Description

The Gibraltar Chess Festival is an annual international chess event held in Gibraltar, typically in late January and early February. First staged in 2003, it has grown into a prominent gathering for professional players, attracting grandmasters and competitors from around the world. The main tournament has been hosted at the Caleta Hotel and is known for its strong international field, prominent women players and competitive open format. After operating under names including the Gibtelecom Gibraltar Chess Festival and Tradewise Chess Festival, it has been known as the Gibraltar International Chess Festival since 2019.

The festival’s programme includes the Masters, alongside Challengers and Amateur tournaments designed for players across different rating levels. The Masters has used a ten-round Swiss format, while additional activities have included a gala dinner and the popular Battle of the Sexes exhibition, featuring teams of leading male and female players. Past winners include Hikaru Nakamura, Levon Aronian, Nigel Short and Vladislav Artemiev.
