## Description

GIFS France is a scientific coordination organization dedicated to improving understanding of the wood pigeon, known in France as the palombe, and other pigeon species. For nearly 40 years, it has gathered, developed, and shared research and field data to inform knowledge of bird biology, migration, reproduction, and population trends. Its work is supported by a network that includes 17 departmental hunting federations, technicians, scientists, and field observers.

The organization runs long-term monitoring programs, including bird ringing, population counts, and studies of breeding success. It coordinates daily migration counts at four Pyrenean mountain passes and shares current-season data. GPS tracking programs let visitors explore the movements of tagged pigeons on an interactive map. GIFS France also provides information about the wood pigeon and stock dove, along with downloadable books, scientific articles, and conference posters.

By making its findings accessible, GIFS France contributes evidence to discussions about sustainable management and biodiversity. Its activities connect research partners and observers while encouraging wider understanding of these birds and their movements.
