## Description

The Giller Prize, established in 1994 by Jack Rabinovitch in memory of his wife, literary journalist Doris Giller, stands as Canada’s premier literary award, celebrating exceptional achievements in Canadian fiction, including both novels and short stories. With an annual cash prize that has evolved from $25,000 to a remarkable $140,000, the Giller Prize represents the largest monetary reward for literature in Canada. Its mission focuses on enhancing literary conversation and broadening awareness of diverse Canadian authors, while ensuring access to literature in marginalized communities.

The Prize showcases Canadian writers through both virtual and live events, further promoting the freedom of expression and the power of literature. Noteworthy winners include literary giants such as Alice Munro and Margaret Atwood, symbolizing the Giller Prize’s role in nurturing and recognizing Canadian literary talent. Through various programs, including the Giller Book Club and Craving CanLit, the foundation invites readers on inspirational literary journeys, enhancing their appreciation for the rich tapestry of Canadian fiction.
