About

Description

The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District (GLACVCD) is a public health agency dedicated to providing ongoing mosquito and vector control services to the residents of Los Angeles County. Established in 1952, GLACVCD has evolved over time and now offers comprehensive mosquito, midge, and black fly control services to nearly six million residents across 36 cities and unincorporated areas of the county. GLACVCD follows a comprehensive integrated vector management strategy, which includes surveillance, prevention and control, public education and outreach.

The agency conducts regular surveillance to monitor vector populations and test mosquitoes for diseases like West Nile virus. They also identify and treat areas where vectors may rest or reproduce and provide information to residents and local agencies through various channels. GLACVCD is funded by ad valorem property and special assessment taxes and is governed by a board of trustees representing various cities in Los Angeles County.

Their goal is to protect public health by effectively managing mosquito populations and preventing disease transmission
