About

Description

Glancy Nicholls Architects is a renowned brand that specializes in transforming historic landmarks into vibrant communities and thriving lifestyle hubs. With a strong focus on sustainable development and design, they are committed to preserving the heritage of Derby while revitalizing the city's Friar Gate Goods Yard. Working in collaboration with Wavensmere Homes and Clowes Developments, Glancy Nicholls Architects has submitted a full planning and listed building application for the redevelopment of this iconic site.

Their detailed design proposal envisions over 110,000 sq ft of commercial space within two landmark Grade II listed buildings. Additionally, they plan to include 276 new homes, extensive public open spaces, play areas, and pocket parks. The proposal also features a new multi-purpose public realm and community space adjacent to the historic Friar Gate Bridge.

Glancy Nicholls Architects has meticulously 3D modelled the Bonded Warehouse and Engine House, showcasing their dedication to bringing these architectural gems back to life. With a strong emphasis on exemplary placemaking, the brand aims to create a mix of commercial uses within the buildings and open up the site to create linear parks. Their customized townhouse designs celebrate the context of the area, incorporating energy-saving technologies and design strategies to achieve high EPC ratings.

Through sustainable development practices, Glancy Nicholls Architects strives to minimize energy consumption, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance the overall quality of life for the Friar Gate Goods Yard community. In addition to the restoration and retrofitting of the listed buildings, Glancy Nicholls Architects has also proposed an inclusive apartment building on Stafford Street, contributing to the revitalization of the streetscape and offering residents a sustainable urban lifestyle. By maximizing natural light and incorporating contextual design, they prioritize energy efficiency and the well-being of the residents.

Glancy Nicholls Architects takes pride in their role in preserving two iconic Derbyshire structures, regenerating a problematic brownfield site, and creating a new vibrant community, workplace, and citywide amenity
