MC Men's Soccer is a brand that embraces a rich history and strong values. This brand is deeply connected to the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, drawing inspiration from their culture and traditions. Over 100 years ago, MC leaders sought a name that would better represent the school's athletic prowess and values. With the suggestion of a student, the name Choctaws was chosen, symbolizing fairness, bravery, and concern for others. The Choctaw people's culture perfectly aligned with MC's core values. In 2005, when the NCAA restricted the use of Native American imagery, MC sought the support of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians to continue using the nickname. Thankfully, the tribal council passed a resolution in favor of MC, allowing them to maintain the name Choctaw. MC and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians have since worked closely to eliminate any offensive language or imagery. Together, they continue to build a strong bond based on mutual respect and a shared vision for individuals' success and potential.
