## Description

GOGEL, an initiative by the German NGO Urgewald e.V., plays a pivotal role in advocating for environmental and social standards within the finance industry. Established in 1992, Urgewald monitors the activities of European banks and corporations, aiming to protect communities threatened by problematic investments. GOGEL, the Global Oil & Gas Exit List, is a key data project launched to help financial institutions transition away from fossil fuels. With over 230 institutions utilizing GOGEL, it serves as a comprehensive public database on oil and gas companies, assisting in their exclusion policy development.

Urgewald’s impact is underscored by their success in prompting major investors, such as the Norwegian Government Pension Fund and Allianz, to divest from coal. The organization collaborates with more than 50 international partners, ensuring rich, reliable data, which is further enhanced by research published through their Investing in Climate Chaos platform. GOGEL is recognized as an essential resource for civil society organizations, researchers, and media, reinforcing the call for a sustainable financial future.
