## Description

The A.M. Prokhorov General Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GPI RAS) is a Moscow-based research and education institution founded in 1982. Named after Nobel Prize-winning physicist Alexander Prokhorov, its work spans fundamental and applied physics. Research areas include laser physics and fiber optics, quantum macroscopic phenomena in condensed matter, new materials and nanostructures, plasma physics and technology, biological and medical applications of physics, radio physics, and acoustics.

The institute’s work produces scientific publications and practical developments, including optical measurement systems, monitoring technologies, and specialized lasers. Recent examples include a sensor for measuring fat and protein in milk-air mixtures and mid-infrared fiber lasers. GPI RAS also supports research through seminars, conferences, dissertation councils, publication competitions, and a shared-use research center.

Its educational activities include postgraduate study, an academic class, and a scientific and educational center. The institute offers summer schools and events for students, postgraduate researchers, and early-career scientists, providing opportunities to engage with current research and present scientific work.
