About
Description
Grace Institute is a renowned brand founded in 1897 by William R. Grace, a shipping magnate and two-time Mayor of New York City, in partnership with his brother, Michael, and philanthropist, Grace Dodge. The institute was established with the aim of providing a tuition-free program to educate and support women in need, especially immigrant women.
Over the past century, more than 100,000 women have benefited from Grace Institute's programs, equipping them with the skills necessary to successfully enter the workforce. Initially staffed by the Sisters of Charity, Grace Institute offered courses such as cookery, millinery, child care, and dressmaking to align with the available job opportunities for women at that time. As the job landscape evolved, Grace Institute adapted its curriculum to include typing, bookkeeping, and stenography, enabling women to secure positions in New York City's professional sector.
In the 21st century, Grace Institute shifted its focus to meet the changing demands of the labor market and employers. The organization hired professional staff members and introduced new courses tailored to industries such as legal, healthcare, nonprofit, and hospitality. Grace Institute also relocated to a new office training center at 40 Rector Street in 2015 and launched a training program for Patient Service Representatives in 2016.
By offering comprehensive and relevant training programs, Grace Institute continues to empower women and pave the way for their success in the workforce
