About

Description

Grassland Heritage Foundation (GHF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) land trust organization dedicated to preserving prairies in eastern Kansas. With a focus on education, stewardship, and land protection, GHF is committed to maintaining prairies for future generations. They believe that prairies are fundamental elements of our ecological, cultural, and economic heritage, serving as unique reservoirs of biological diversity and providers of ecological services.

GHF's core values are rooted in the understanding that the ecology of prairies must be science-driven, and education plays a crucial role in helping people of all ages appreciate the diverse benefits of prairies. By visiting and learning about prairies, both children and adults derive emotional, creative, and intellectual benefits. GHF also acknowledges the importance of volunteers and citizen scientists in promoting and implementing its mission.

GHF's efforts are particularly focused on preserving tallgrass prairie remnants in northeast Kansas, where populations of the federally threatened Mead's milkweed and the Western Prairie Fringed Orchid can be found. Through their work, GHF aims to protect these remnants that are in need of safeguarding. To support Grassland Heritage Foundation's mission, you can join, donate, learn about the prairie, or engage in volunteer opportunities.
