## Description

Graveyards.com is an independent cemetery history and photography project created by Matt Hucke, who has explored and photographed more than 1,200 cemeteries, graveyards, and mausolea in Illinois and elsewhere. Launched in 1996, the site offers resources for people interested in burial grounds, local history, and cemetery art and lore. Visitors can browse cemetery listings organized by state and county, and explore featured material, including the original Graveyards of Chicago content focused on Cook County cemeteries. The website also shares information about its history and contributors, along with a book log and related features. Its associated publication, Graveyards of Chicago: The People, History, Art, and Lore of Cook County Cemeteries, was written by Matt Hucke and Ursula Bielski and has editions from 1999 and 2013. The site and book are presented as the work of independent enthusiasts and researchers; they are not affiliated with or endorsed by the cemeteries featured. Graveyards.com serves as an accessible guide to cemetery listings and stories, grounded in exploration, photography, and research.
