## Description

GFPBR, the Great Forest Park Balloon Race, presented by PNC Bank, is an iconic St. Louis tradition that has been delighting visitors for over 50 years. This free event, held on September 15th and 16th at Emerson Central Fields in Forest Park, offers an unforgettable experience filled with wonder and excitement. The festivities kick off on Friday evening with the Balloon Glow, where dozens of hot air balloons illuminate the night sky like giant lanterns. Visitors can walk amongst the glowing balloons, take photos, and even chat with the pilots. The evening concludes with a dazzling fireworks finale. On Saturday, the main event takes place, as 50 hot air balloons take off from Central Fields and fly across the St. Louis skyline. Spectators can enjoy delicious food, live music, and performances by local St. Louis youth on the Main Stage. The Purina Children's Entertainment Area provides inflatable fun for kids, and there are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the event. Unlike a traditional race, the Great Forest Park Balloon Race is a hare and hound-style race, where pilots aim to drop a bean bag as close to the center of a marked X on the ground. This unique race format adds an element of suspense and strategy. With its rich history dating back to 1973, the Great Forest Park Balloon Race is the second longest-running balloon race in the country. It has become an internationally renowned event, cherished by multiple generations of St. Louis families. Experience the magic and excitement of the Great Forest Park Balloon Race – a beloved St. Louis tradition that is sure to create lasting memories for all who attend.
