It welcomes enthusiasts, researchers, and anyone interested in learning more about the conflict, and is free to use, with members encouraged to support the forum through donations. Its extensive discussion boards cover soldiers and military units, the war at sea and in the air, women’s experiences, medical services, battles and battlefields, home fronts, weapons, uniforms, medals, and remembrance. Members can also explore topics such as cemeteries, memorials, battlefield visits, and the preservation of historic sites. The forum supports historical research through dedicated areas for requests and offers involving photographs and documents, help interpreting original records, and an electronic and physical document repository featuring unit diaries, histories, and maps. Additional sections provide space to discuss books, reviews, music, art, film, and other cultural depictions of the Great War. With active conversations and a large membership, the Great War Forum offers a collaborative place to share knowledge, ask questions, and investigate the history and legacy of World War I.
