## Description

Great Water Alliance (GWA) is a public information program focused on Waukesha, Wisconsin’s transition to a sustainable Lake Michigan water supply. Its website documents the planning and delivery of the water-supply project, explaining the route, water transition, aquifer conservation, and related water-quality improvements. The transition from groundwater to Lake Michigan water was completed in 2023, two weeks ahead of schedule, with all Waukesha Water Utility customers moved to the new supply and minimal disruption reported.

GWA provides residents with project updates, a program tracker, frequently asked questions, water-rate information, and community updates for Waukesha and nearby municipalities. Its resources also cover the Root River, the city’s clean water plant, and a steelhead facility, helping explain the project’s connections to water treatment and environmental considerations. The site offers educational materials, including a teacher’s kit, as well as an e-newsletter and media resources. The GWA hotline closed after the transition; customers with questions about water service or the new supply are directed to Waukesha Water Utility.
