About

Description

Greenbatch is the first PET plastic reprocessing facility in Western Australia, dedicated to educating the community and producing sustainably recycled PET products. It all started in 2016 when Darren Lomman was shocked by the prediction that there would be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. He discovered that none of the plastic collected in yellow top bins in Western Australia was being reprocessed.

Determined to make a change, Darren used his engineering background to research plastic reprocessing and launched Greenbatch Pty Ltd in 2017. With the support of the community, Greenbatch quickly expanded its operations. They built their first bottle shredder and launched a school recycling program.

Over time, they moved to a larger workshop and acquired an industrial shredder, increasing their capacity to 50kg/hr. They also started turning bottles into 3D printer filament and expanded their educational programs. Greenbatch's success led to the expansion of their collection program and a grant for a PET and HDPE flaking and shredding line, boosting their capacity to 500kg/hr.

They continued to advocate for a sustainable future, building a strong social media following and engaging with government ministers. Although they were not awarded the funds to build a new plant, Greenbatch played a significant role in transforming the industry. Today, the Australian government is investing in recycling, and the public is more conscious of waste generation.

Greenbatch's efforts, along with those of campaigners across Australia, have brought us closer to a future where there are more fish than plastic in the ocean
