## Description

GRID, the Global Research Identifier Database, was launched in 2015 by Digital Science as an open database providing unique identifiers for research organizations. This initiative aimed to fill the gap in open organization identifiers available for the research community. In 2021, GRID transitioned to become part of Dimensions, and the responsibility for research organization identification was handed over to the Research Organization Registry (ROR). This evolution followed three years of collaboration between GRID and ROR, with ROR emerging as a community-driven alternative reflecting the needs of today's research landscape.

Digital Science continues to utilize GRID internally while ensuring that the public remains engaged with ROR. ROR, which was originally seeded with GRID data, has gained significant traction in the research community, supported by its inclusion in major datasets. The commitment from both ROR and Digital Science aims to facilitate a smooth transition for users migrating from GRID. With a shared vision for the future, both teams look forward to the continued development and utilization of ROR in enhancing research collaboration globally.
