## Description

Grupo Lobo is a Portuguese association dedicated to conserving the Iberian wolf and its ecosystem, while encouraging public interest in wolves and related sciences. Through its multidisciplinary Programa Signatus, established in 1987, the organisation supports research, practical conservation and efforts to improve the legal, ecological and socioeconomic conditions needed to protect Portugal’s wolf population. Its scientific work includes studies of wolf biology and human-wolf interactions, and its environmental education programmes share reliable information through activities, learning materials and public outreach.

The association also created the Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre in 1987 to provide suitable care for wolves unable to live in the wild, including animals rescued from traps or illegal captivity. Visitors can learn about the centre and its work, and supporters can participate through volunteering and an animal sponsorship programme. Grupo Lobo’s Cão de Gado programme promotes the appropriate use of Portuguese livestock guardian dog breeds to protect herds and reduce conflict with wolves.
