## Description

The General Society of the War of 1812 is an organization centered on preserving the history and legacy of the War of 1812. It brings together members through national and state societies, with leadership roles including a president general and state vice presidents general. The Society provides information about its history, purpose, insignia, constitution, bylaws, and past meeting locations, and offers membership guidance covering eligibility, qualifications, applications, and published research materials for prospective members and descendants.

The organization holds annual and triennial meetings at locations across the United States. Recent and announced gatherings include meetings in Plattsburgh, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; Natchez, Mississippi; and Perrysburg, Ohio. Its activities also include commemorations of Patriot Day, Constitution Day, and Columbus Day. The Society supports educational and recognition initiatives through ROTC awards and state society grants. Members can access newsletters, forms, merchandise, photographs, and a members-only area, while the website shares event information and updates. Together, these resources and programs support fellowship, historical awareness, and participation in the Society’s work.
