About
Description
Hammer Heads Program, created by the Central Ontario Building Trades, is a skill and employment-based training program designed to support at-risk youth in under-resourced neighborhoods. Our program offers apprenticeship career opportunities within the construction industry, providing a clear path to a long-term, life-changing career for our participants. At Hammer Heads, we address the needs of under-resourced youth by linking them with registered apprenticeships in the construction industry, which may otherwise be difficult for them to access.
Through our diverse training curriculum and peer-to-peer support from past graduates, we motivate and prepare participants for success in the construction industry. We ensure that our participants have all the necessary tools for their journey, including transportation to our affiliate training centers across the GTA. Safety and training are key aspects of our program, with hands-on skills development and comprehensive health and safety training exceeding industry requirements.
Education is also a central component of our program, emphasizing the enhancement of academic standards to meet apprenticeship requirements. Additionally, we provide consistent leadership, mentoring, and coaching to support our participants throughout their journey. By exposing participants to multiple trades, we broaden their perspective on the opportunities available within the construction industry, helping them find the most suitable trade based on their education and aptitude.
Registered apprenticeships offer a unique opportunity for participants to learn skilled trades on the job, working alongside experienced journeypersons and earning a fair wage. Our ultimate goal is to help graduates establish successful careers in construction, and thus we provide ongoing support and follow-up throughout their apprenticeships. Through partnerships and the incorporation of youth-specific contract language, we aim to achieve systemic change by creating employment opportunities and connecting under-resourced youth to registered apprenticeships in our communities.
Join the Hammer Heads Program and embark on a journey of skill development, academic enrichment, mentorship, and career support within the construction industry. Together, we can change lives, one step at a time
