## Description

Fundatia Health Action Overseas (HAO) is a Romanian not-for-profit organisation founded in 1999 by Health Action Overseas Ireland to establish and develop local disability services. Formerly known as Fundatia pentru o Viata mai Buna, HAO works to help young adults with disabilities, including people labelled as having a disability, move from institutions into homes in their communities and build active, independent lives. Its support includes opportunities to attend school and courses, develop everyday living and social skills, make friends, and prepare for employment. HAO also works with families and carers, young people with disabilities, and local communities through social inclusion, training, advocacy, and parent and carer network programmes. Guided by a human rights approach, the organisation promotes participation in community life, access to ordinary services, informed personal choices, safe and suitable housing, and protection from abuse and neglect. HAO Romania also supports HAO Ireland’s efforts to assist children displaced from Ukraine. Its work builds on a history of relief, education, therapeutic programmes, and staff training in Romania.
