About

Description

Haymarket Books is a radical, independent, nonprofit book publisher based in Chicago. With a mission to contribute to struggles for social and economic justice, Haymarket Books publishes books that aim to create a better world. Since their founding in 2001, they have published over nine hundred titles, featuring renowned authors such as Angela Y.

Davis, Arundhati Roy, Noam Chomsky, and Naomi Klein. Haymarket Books strives to make their books an integral part of social movements and the education and development of a critical, engaged, and internationalist Left. They draw inspiration from the Haymarket Martyrs, who fought for the eight-hour workday in 1886 and inspired the international workers' holiday, May Day.

These struggles against oppression, exploitation, environmental devastation, and war continue today across the globe. In addition to publishing books, Haymarket also manages a vibrant community organizing and event space called Haymarket House in Chicago. They host the popular Haymarket Books Live event series and podcast, as well as the annual Socialism Conference.

Haymarket Books is committed to driving a wedge into the risk-averse world of corporate book publishing and amplifying the voices of leading writers of our time
