HealthIM is a digital public safety system that aims to support individuals facing mental health and substance abuse challenges during acute crisis situations. Backed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the Health Technologies Fund, and the National Research Council Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program, this software provides a compassionate and evidence-based response to mental health crises. The HealthIM system consists of four key components.

First, responders receive a pre-response safety briefing that highlights critical safety factors, de-escalation techniques, and any known triggers based on previous contact. Second, responders complete the interRAI™ Brief Mental Health Screener (BMHS), which helps evaluate the risk of harm and determine appropriate outcomes using clinically validated algorithms. In addition, HealthIM enables secure communication among different agencies involved in the crisis, facilitating the wireless transmission of on-scene observations to hospitals, community mental health centers, and other partners.
