## Description

Heiligen is a Dutch-language reference website dedicated to saints and the stories, traditions, and meanings associated with them. It offers well-documented biographies, with ways to browse saints by calendar date or name, making it easier to find information about a particular person or the saints commemorated on a given day. Visitors can also explore patron saints, learn what a patron saint is, and discover the significance of contemporary first names. The site provides guidance on how people become saints and helps readers recognize apostles in objects and artworks such as medals, statues, and paintings. Additional resources include meditations, a glossary, sources, a reading guide, and introductory material about the author’s book Ga anders denken. The biographies were written by Jesuit Father Dries van den Akker, who died on 30 October 2022. Heiligen is designed for readers seeking accessible background on saints, religious history, names, and devotional traditions, whether they arrive with a specific question or simply want to explore.
