## Description

Helden van Hackforts is a foundation-led community project in Twello, the Netherlands, created by parents to support young adults aged 18 to 23 with mild intellectual disabilities. Its aim is to provide a welcoming home and meaningful daytime activities while helping participants develop independence and contribute to village life. The young people, known as the “Heroes of Hackforts,” can take on practical jobs for local residents, associations and businesses.

The project is developing a range of activities and visitor facilities on the estate, including Heldenhof, a tea house, and Heldenstay, a holiday home. Plans also include a bed and breakfast, meeting space, green-space maintenance and small-scale events, with the estate being made accessible to walkers and other visitors. Guests can request a stay at the holiday home, booking the entire house or just its ground or upper floor.

Helden van Hackforts invites local people and businesses to get involved as friends, volunteers, donors or partners. The foundation also welcomes ideas and donations, and shares project updates through social media.
