The Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF) was co-founded by Professor Edward Smith with the aim of serving the youth in the Washington DC area. The foundation offers character-building programs known as PALS and TAP, which have a profound impact on the students. YLF serves around 350 students annually in seven different school partners across the city, catering to students from third to twelfth grade.

Their programs are not limited to traditional classroom settings; they also offer after-school programs, Saturday sessions, summer programs, and virtual mentorship opportunities. These programs include one-on-one mentoring, character-focused talks, engagement with parents, and community-building activities such as meals and sports. YLF strongly believes in the significance of supporting parents, fostering a sense of belonging, and teaching students the value of generosity.

The programs have been tremendously successful, with 90% of students describing them as life-changing. Additionally, YLF has a rich history and has received numerous accolades for its work, including being named one of D. C.

's Best Small Charities and being selected for the Fair Chance Partnership. YLF has made a significant impact, with 97% of its students graduating high school and 80% furthering their education at university or trade school.
