## Description

Henge Art is the creative practice of New Zealand artist David Saunders, whose work brings together Oamaru stone sculpture and watercolour painting. The name reflects Saunders’s early memories of living in Wiltshire, England, near Stonehenge, as well as the connections he sees between ancient monuments, the sun, and his art. His sculptures use carefully shaped hard and soft edges, shadows, and openings in the stone to capture changing light and give each piece a sense of movement throughout the day and year.

After focusing on carving with mallet and chisel, Saunders has returned to watercolour painting, adding a second medium to his artistic practice. Henge Art presents images of his work and information about its creation and inspirations. Each sculpture is unique and hand-signed, and a selection is generally available to purchase, with current availability confirmed by email. Saunders also welcomes commission enquiries, working with clients to create pieces with personal meaning. Smaller works can be made for fishing competition trophies, birthdays, and gifts.
