Heshima Kenya is a pioneering organization dedicated to protecting and empowering refugees in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 2008 by Anne Sweeney and Talyn Good, Heshima Kenya has become the first and only organization of its kind. Their holistic model offers a gold-standard of care, protection, and empowerment for thousands of women, girls, children, and infants.

Recognizing the vulnerability of unaccompanied and separated refugee girls, especially to sexual and gender-based violence, Heshima Kenya provides a safe community for them to learn, grow, and become leaders. They are the first organization in Kenya to focus on protecting minors and separated children and youth from countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, DR Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, and Burundi. Heshima Kenya offers a range of services to their participants, including safety and shelter, a multi-disciplinary education program, economic empowerment through a scarf-making social enterprise, childcare, and support for legal and medical appointments.
