## Description

Hieizan Driveway is a toll road in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, linking Tanotani Pass with Enryakuji Temple’s Tōtō area and the summit of Mount Hiei. Opened in 1958, the approximately 8.1-kilometer route winds through mountain scenery and offers views across Lake Biwa, Otsu, and Kyoto from its overlooks. The road is designed for visitors exploring the area by car, with information on access, operating hours, tolls, discounts, and visitor guidelines available through its services.

Along the route, Yumemigaoka provides a viewing platform, parking for up to 120 vehicles, and a popular vantage point for city lights and sunrise. Visitors can also reach Enryakuji, the historic Tendai Buddhist temple complex, and Garden Museum Hiei, a mountaintop garden featuring seasonal flowers and 45 ceramic reproductions of works by Impressionist artists. Other attractions include scenic stops and the Beetle House, a forest enclosure where visitors can observe rhinoceros beetles. The connected Oku-Hiei Driveway extends the mountain route, while seasonal events and visitor information help travelers plan their visit.
