## Description

Hillforts.eu is a privately maintained open-data initiative focused on hillforts and other ancient sites, founded and managed by G. Kalniņš in Latvia and supported by donations. It brings together information and digital resources for researchers, history enthusiasts and the public, with the aim of supporting a possible European catalogue of hillforts. Its offerings include descriptions, photographs and 3D models, particularly of Iron Age hillforts in Latvia and other Baltic countries, as well as resources covering Poland and ancient sites more broadly. The site links to open-data repositories containing 3D models, source code and related materials, and shares model visualisations and videos through Sketchfab and YouTube. It also provides access to interactive maps, including OpenStreetMap-based maps with search and data-export options, alongside regional maps. Related projects and resources cover archaeological sites, cultural identity, LiDAR and aerial archaeology, and hillfort research in Britain and Ireland. The project’s data and models are free to access and use, with materials distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
