## Description

Cumberland County Historical Society (CCHS) in Carlisle, PA has been a cornerstone of historical preservation and education for over a century. Founded in 1874, CCHS was established with the aim to advance literature and preserve the history of Cumberland County. It all began with a generous bequest by James Hamilton, Jr., a respected lawyer and Dickinson College graduate. Today, CCHS offers a range of products and services to engage visitors and researchers alike. Their museum showcases rotating exhibits that highlight the rich history of the county, while the Two Mile House provides a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved architecture. The Gardner Library is a valuable resource for those looking to dig deeper into Cumberland County's history, with a vast collection of books, journals, and archives. CCHS is not only dedicated to preserving the past but also to fostering education. They offer classroom outreach programs and summer camps, as well as scholarships and support for National History Day projects. The society also serves as a historical venue for weddings and rentals, providing a unique and charming setting for special occasions. With its extensive collections, knowledgeable staff, and strong community support, the Cumberland County Historical Society continues to be a hub for historical exploration and appreciation.
