U-turn is a brand on a mission to equip people with the skills necessary to overcome homelessness. With a strong belief that every person is intrinsically valuable and no one should have to sleep on the street, U-turn is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of those experiencing homelessness in Cape Town City. Through their innovative, skills-based program, U-turn has crafted a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation and reintegration. The program is designed by a team of multidisciplinary professionals, including social workers, support workers, therapists, and counselors. With a Christian faith-based foundation, U-turn's program has proven long-term results, with more than 80% of participants remaining sober and employed six months after graduating. U-turn's phased program starts with providing basic needs relief, such as food and clothing, at their First Phase Service Center. It then progresses to drug and alcohol rehabilitation support before culminating in a work-based learnership called the Life Change program. This program focuses on nurturing personal and vocational skills, as well as relapse prevention. As individuals progress through U-turn's Life Change Journey, they receive access to essential services, daily change-readiness groups, and individual case management. They also receive support during their therapeutic process at partner rehabilitation centers, including financial assistance for transport, placement, and accommodation. In addition, the third phase of the program provides actual work experience through U-turn's social enterprises, preparing participants for graduation into the open labor market. With a commitment to creating an effective life-change pathway accessible to every person experiencing homelessness in South Africa, U-turn is dedicated to making a lasting impact and helping individuals journey out of homelessness.
