The Horry County Museum is a hub for Southern culture, heritage, and natural treasures. Established in 1979 and open to the public since 1981, the museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting material related to the prehistory, natural history, history, and culture of Horry County, South Carolina. Through exhibits, outreach programs, and events, the museum educates the public about the rich history and natural beauty of the region. One of the highlights of the museum is the L.W. Paul Living History Farm, which recreates life on a one-horse family farm from 1900 to 1955. Visitors can experience firsthand what life was like in a farm community during those years and attend quarterly events at the farm. The museum also features a freshwater aquarium that was showcased on Animal Planet's Tanked. This unique custom-made aquarium showcases aquatic life found in the local rivers and lakes. Field trips and free educational programs are available for schools, providing students with engaging and hands-on learning experiences.
