## Description

Horses for Healing is a Shoalhaven-based provider of equine-assisted learning and mentoring, offering therapeutic support for people of all ages who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, or other challenging life circumstances. The program is delivered by Lisa Jackson, whose more than 20 years of experience in child and family health informs her work alongside training in counselling skills and trauma-informed practice. Lisa describes her role as a facilitator and mentor, not a therapist.

Sessions use calm, structured activities with horses to encourage trust, emotional regulation, relaxation, and connection. A one-hour session may include meeting and grooming a pony, learning horsemanship and horse-safety skills, walking and talking, breathing and mindfulness exercises, and reflection through conversation or art. Individual packages can be tailored in consultation with a referee or carer; basic lead-rein riding may also be included. Weekly sessions over an eight-to-ten-week period or school term are recommended.

Horses for Healing supports clients facing experiences such as bullying, grief, family violence, abuse, work stress, mental health challenges, and family breakdown.
