## Description

The Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland is a charitable organisation dedicated to preserving the memory and history of the Huguenots, French Protestants who left France to escape persecution. Established in 1885 by directors of the French Hospital in London, the Society brings together people interested in Huguenot heritage and supports the exchange of historical knowledge. Membership is open to anyone who wishes to join.

The Society holds four meetings each year in central London, featuring talks on Huguenot subjects and opportunities for members to connect. It publishes an annual journal, historical record volumes and monographs, including accounts by Huguenot refugees and their descendants. Its Huguenot Library houses printed and archival materials on Huguenot and family history; collections at The National Archives in Kew can be consulted by appointment.

The Society also supports education and research through an annual student bursary and promotes a related scholarship. It shares information with corresponding societies and heritage organisations in Britain and internationally, helping people explore Huguenot history and family connections.
