## Description

Huhtikoti Oy is a professional family home based in the village of Elämäntaipale, in the city of Mänttä-Vilppula, Finland. Its staff have been part of the local community since 1996. Operating with a licence from the provincial government, Huhtikoti provides round-the-clock care and support for up to seven children and young people who have been taken into care. It also offers three young people the opportunity to live in supported accommodation as they move towards greater independence.

Huhtikoti’s approach centres on creating a secure everyday life through regular routines. Residents take part in school or work, leisure activities and ordinary household tasks, including caring for the cleanliness and comfort of their home. Trips, excursions and cultural events add variety and offer new perspectives. The home’s aim is to help young people grow in their ability to take responsibility for matters affecting their own lives and to explore different options when making decisions. The surrounding village community is also seen as a meaningful part of the young people’s environment and development.
