## Description

The Human Brain Project (HBP) was a European research initiative that ran from 2013 to 2023, bringing together hundreds of researchers to advance brain science through computing and technology. Its goal was to connect data and knowledge across disciplines and support new understanding of the brain, brain-disease research, and brain-inspired computing. The project’s work spanned brain connectivity, consciousness and cognition, cognitive architectures, brain atlases, simulations, medical data analytics, neurorobotics, and neuromorphic computing.

HBP developed digital neuroscience resources and services that are now available through EBRAINS. These include tools for discovering and reusing research data, accessing brain atlases, creating and analysing simulations, and applying advanced analytics to clinical research. EBRAINS also provides computing, cloud, storage, and networking services through the Fenix infrastructure, alongside access to the SpiNNaker and BrainScaleS neuromorphic systems. The Neurorobotics Platform supports embodied simulation. Through research resources, training, publications, and collaboration programmes, the project helped build a shared foundation for interdisciplinary neuroscience and its practical applications.
