## Description

Hunter Heart Safe (HHS) is a community initiative working in partnership with the Hunter community in New South Wales to help save lives and support people affected by sudden cardiac arrest. It provides free, brief teaching sessions designed to make essential emergency skills accessible, simple and empowering. Sessions last around 30 minutes and cover how to recognise cardiac arrest, perform hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). HHS explains that hands-only CPR can encourage more bystanders to begin chest compressions and is easier to teach, learn and maintain. Sessions are available to community groups, schools, businesses and other organisations that can arrange a venue, time and group of at least 10 participants. The initiative does not provide certification. HHS also offers a step-by-step guide to refreshing CPR skills and welcomes expressions of interest from people in the greater Newcastle area who would like to volunteer as instructors. Those unable to volunteer can donate to help fund administrative support and teaching aids.
