## Description

HYDROUSA is an international cooperation of 27 partners dedicated to innovative and nature-based water management and treatment solutions. Through its operations from July 2018 to December 2022, HYDROUSA addresses the pressing issues of water scarcity areas. The project is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. By adopting a circular and nature-inspired approach, HYDROUSA aims to tackle various challenges, such as water supply, wastewater problems, biodiversity and nutrient loss, job availability during high tourism seasons, and infrastructure difficulties. The project implements non-conventional water resource utilization, including rainwater for low purity water demand and the use of low water consumption devices. The impact of HYDROUSA extends throughout the entire water value chain. It opens up a realm of possibilities, including new standardization procedures for technical equipment and organic farming, decentralized urban farming with wastewater, business models involving biogas equipment leasing, open data citizen science activities, and community farming with shared toilets. These innovations have the potential to transform water management systems and promote sustainable practices. HYDROUSA's approach combines traditional handcraft and ancient technologies with modern natural-based solutions, ICT connectivity, and automation systems. By integrating green infrastructures that leverage the benefits of plants and closing system loops, the project fosters green growth and ecosystem restoration. In the long term, the restorative HYDROUSA model aims to achieve self-sustainability.
