## Description

ICARUS (Integrated Climate forcing and Air pollution Reduction in Urban Systems) is a pioneering European research and innovation project active from May 2016 to October 2020, aimed at enhancing air quality and addressing climate change across EU cities. Funded by the Horizon 2020 program, ICARUS employs integrated assessment tools and strategic frameworks to evaluate urban impacts, leading to informed abatement strategies that improve air quality and reduce carbon footprints.

The project’s findings provide valuable insights into sustainable greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation and air quality improvement strategies, offering guidance for authorities managing atmospheric pollution and climate protection. The ICARUS initiative also supports policymakers through comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and the innovative ICARUS Decision Support System.

Additionally, the project features a mobile application and a global data repository, facilitating access to essential datasets and promoting collaboration among participating cities. ICARUS stands as a significant contribution to public health, aiming to optimize well-being while considering the economic implications of air pollution and climate change in Europe.
