## Description

The Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) is a pioneering organization dedicated to combating sexual violence and supporting survivors. Founded in 1977, initially as the Illinois Coalition of Women Against Rape (ICWAR), the coalition has evolved into a unified network of 30 rape crisis centers across Illinois, providing essential resources and services. ICASA's mission centers on alleviating the suffering of sexual assault survivors through victim-centered counseling, advocacy for progressive public policies, and extensive prevention education aimed at changing cultural norms. With a strong historical foundation, ICASA has played a crucial role in legislative reforms that enhance victim rights and services, such as the Rape Victims Emergency Treatment Act and the Rape Shield Law. The coalition focuses on grassroots activism while offering specialized support for diverse groups, including children and male victims. ICASA’s ongoing efforts empower communities to foster safety, justice, and equality, ensuring that the voices of survivors are heard and respected in every aspect of societal response to sexual violence.
