IHA is a grassroots organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees across Europe. Founded in September 2015, IHA initially focused on coordinating volunteer efforts to respond to humanitarian emergencies along the Balkan route. Since then, they have expanded their operations, with a continuous field presence in Northern Greece since early 2016.

IHA believes that Europe is experiencing a crisis of solidarity and shared values, rather than simply a refugee crisis. Their mission is to take humanitarian action beyond national borders, based in civil society and emphasizing human rights and dignity. Their work is characterized by a focus on dignity, independent funding, flexibility, and sustainability.

They provide essential relief supplies to thousands of refugees through their warehouse in Northern Greece, while their community center in Lagadikia serves as a space for learning, community building, and cultural exchange. IHA also connects with a Europe-wide grassroots network, facilitating the connection between people willing to help and local actors. Transparency and accountability are essential to IHA's operations, as evidenced by their comprehensive Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, and Whistleblowing Policy.
