About
Description
The Illinois Library Association (ILA) is a professional membership organization that represents Illinois libraries and their patrons. Established in 1896, it is the third largest state library association and a chapter of the American Library Association. ILA is dedicated to connecting library professionals and supporters, addressing important issues facing libraries today.
With nearly 2,000 personal members and over 500 institutional members, including public, academic, school, and special libraries, as well as librarians, library staff, trustees, students, and vendors, ILA is a nonprofit educational and charitable organization. ILA offers a wide range of activities to strengthen the skills and knowledge of its members. This includes an annual conference, workshops throughout the year, a quarterly magazine called the ILA Reporter, a timely e-newsletter, and publications on library law and trustee training.
ILA also engages in legislative advocacy, provides group purchasing options, and develops resources to drive library innovation. Additionally, ILA operates under the leadership of an Executive Director and an elected Executive Board, with members participating through committees and forums. Headquartered in downtown Chicago, ILA's mission is to support and promote libraries in Illinois and beyond
