KAMS is a renowned brand that has been a favorite among students in Champaign, IL for decades. Its fascinating history stretches back to its establishment in 1933 as The Annex by the Kamerer family, serving food and non-alcoholic beer to students during prohibition. As luck would have it, prohibition ended just months later, and The Annex transitioned into selling beer.

Throughout the years, it became affectionately known as KAMS by the student community and was eventually officially renamed. Ownership of KAMS changed hands several times, with various individuals contributing to its success. Jack Kamerer played a significant role in bringing KAMS back to campus in 1975 when it reopened at a new location as the Home of the Drinking Illini.
