ILN Coaching & Consulting is a brand that has evolved from the original Innovation Learning Network (ILN), which was founded in 2005 by Chris McCarthy. Initially supported by the VHA Health Foundation, ILN grew to become a thriving association of over 40 members, including healthcare delivery systems, foundations, and design firms. These organizations recognized the power of collaboration in innovation and formed enduring friendships along the way.

Unfortunately, the pandemic led to the discontinuation of the Innovation Learning Network in 2020. However, just like Burning Man, ILN used its final InPerson Meeting to leave a lasting impact and nurture innovation for the future. Chris McCarthy, the founder of ILN, has an impressive background in fostering innovation.

He co-founded Kaiser Permanente's Innovation Consultancy in 2003, leading a team of designers, strategists, doctors, nurses, and frontline staff to address complex challenges. The team utilized Design Thinking and the Model for Improvement frameworks to drive their work. Notable innovations from this collaboration include Nurse Knowledge Exchange, KP MedRite, and Chamai.

In 2017, Chris joined Hopelab, where he established the Design Department and developed a unique framework blending human-centered design, positive psychology research, and systems thinking. This approach resulted in award-winning innovations such as imi, Nod, and Vivibot. His tech-for-good approach has been recognized by Harvard Business Review, which praised Chris for democratizing innovation across systems.
