## Description

IM-Defensoras, the Mesoamerican Initiative of Women Human Rights Defenders, is a regional initiative supporting women who defend human rights in challenging and often hostile environments. Working across El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua, it brings defenders together around a shared commitment to care for one another and sustain their struggles. Its approach, called Feminist Comprehensive Protection, centers collective care and protection.

The initiative documents and reports attacks against women defenders, their organizations and communities. It says it recorded 54,395 attacks from 2010 through December 2025, describing these figures as painful evidence of the risks defenders face. IM-Defensoras shares alerts, statements, reports and publications, including information on digital violence, and provides tools for defenders. Its website also features a podcast and news bulletin, alongside updates on regional advocacy and events. Women defenders seeking secure communication are invited to contact the initiative by email. Through documentation, communication and its protection approach, IM-Defensoras connects defenders and raises awareness of the violence affecting their work and communities.
