IMCJ, the Independent Music Coalition Japan, is a non-profit organization that supports the development of the independent music industry in Japan. It was established by three prominent independent music trade bodies, IRMA, ILCJ, and JNCA, along with other related organizations and businesses in the industry. The main objective of IMCJ is to address the ever-changing music business landscape and enhance the infrastructure for promoting Japanese music content in the global market. With the diversification of music content services, there is a growing expectation for access to the global market as a new commercial sphere. However, various challenges such as lack of experience and track record, language and technical barriers, and shortage of skilled personnel need to be overcome. To tackle these issues, IMCJ aims to share practical solutions with its members and industry partners by actively recruiting members and functioning as a cross-industry coalition. As a member of WIN (Worldwide Independent Network), IMCJ represents Japan and collaborates with music-related organizations worldwide, facilitating international business expansion for its members. IMCJ's mission encompasses maximizing master recording revenues, promoting collaboration among independent businesses, sharing global information and educating stakeholders for rule revision, promoting the use of music technology, and fostering international cooperation. By forming a network of independent music associations in the Asia-Pacific region, IMCJ contributes to the overall development of the independent sector and the regions it encompasses.
